My head went on a trip today about hunger. Over 49 million people go hungry in the USA every day…that’s 49,000,000 and many of them are children and the elderly.
Many people are struggling right now, and those who can afford a little contribution to help others should do so. The problems are that you can’t help everyone, there are so many in need, and how do you choose who to help.
After pondering this for a while, I decided that I need to concentrate my efforts in my own county. Help begins at home.
I chose Fort Bend County Seniors Meals on Wheels program for my contribution. Although not in my county, Aunt Dorothy (who passed away last week at age 87) really enjoyed the daily visit from the person who was kind enough to volunteer to deliver meals to seniors in Williamson county. She didn’t always appreciate that they followed the dietary guidelines for diabetics, and would have preferred cheese fries and pork chops, but she did appreciate the interaction with another human being on a daily basis. So many seniors have no visitors, or rarely have visitors. Some can no longer cook for themselves, and some might be in need of other kinds of help just at the time that volunteer shows up at the door.
Aunt Dorothy was able to afford to pay her own way with Meals on Wheels, but some seniors are on such a fixed income that they are missing meals or skimping on quality supplies to make meals more economical.
Check with your county if you have seniors. Meals on Wheels will feed seniors regardless of their ability to pay.
Please consider helping out in YOUR county.
