Prior to going online to give BA the “advanced passenger information”, I gathered everyone’s passports…some from the end of the driveway at my parent’s house, and some from the urban dwellers.
Hit a snag…
The Boyfriend has a passport, but the name is not his legal name. WUH?
How, in 2007, did the government issue someone a passport using a shortened version of their legal name, when they HAD the birth certificate? AND he used it to fly to the UK with his father without any problem.
I gave his legal name to the travel agent, and the ticket was issued with his legal name. Imagine my surprise when I actually put hands on the passport and the name was not the name I gave the travel agent! Calls back and forth between me and the travel agent, me and British Airways, me and my daughter, and back again between me and British Airways.
British Airways has a NO NAME CHANGE policy…none, nada, nyet! Pay the $500 fee, cancel the ticket, rebook at today’s rate, and thank you very much.
I did reach the nicest lady at BA, though. Her suggestion was to have him go to the passport office and have a new passport made, since his current passport is over one year old. He could have amended it for free if he’d done this during the first year.
So, the Boy has an appointment tomorrow morning downtown to get a new passport, and we fly in 12 days. He’ll have to pay for a new passport plus the expedited fees.
You are so funny.
